Finally, my first post. Yeah, yeah, I slack at this sometimes..but, once I get going I usually have a lot to say.
It appears that some job opportunities are looking pretty good now! Sharon and I plan on going back up to New York in the beginning of September to find out about these jobs and check out some apartments. Unfortunately the GOP convention is next week and then there is Labor day, so that is delaying things a bit. But, if all goes well, we could be moving in early October.
I really want to get up there soon and start in on a new life so to say. I Love Orlando, my family is here and I have a lot friends that I will miss, but, I've just been here too long. Its time for something new and I've always been fascinated with New York. As a child I would stare down at the city from the Whitestone bridge heading into Long Island to visit my Grandparents. It felt like I was 10 miles up in the air looking down on the distant forest of skyscrapers from the back seat of my Dad's blue duster.
Before, I always loved New York, but never thought I could live there. It was too big, too busy, too dangerous! I grew up in small towns most of my life and heard many exaggerated stories from my Grandparents in Long Island about crime in the city. Plus, that was the seventies. I guess it was different back then. However, I have been gradually transitioning.
I have lived in downtown Orlando, FL for the past 3 years. Its not a big city at all in comparison to New York, but, is much larger than the towns I lived in as a youngster. We have a handful of Skyscrapers, the tallest being 35 stories, and a somewhat big city feel downtown. There are the cafes and bars in walking distance and some shops and businesses on the street. I like what we have downtown, but am ready for a lot more. New York is and endless array of mixed neighborhoods, with shops on the first floor and residences in the buildings above. I really like living like that. I'm sick of suburbia having to drive in a car to do anything. Traffic, parking lots, traffic! I look forward to selling my truck and taking the trains and cabs everyplace. Plus, whenever you have a few beers after work you don't ever have to worry about driving!
I also look forward to having seasons again! Florida has only two - HOT and Not so Hot. About six month's each.
Anyway, I hope we make some progress this week so we can get up to New York and enjoy the fall!
